Hedge funds' phenomenal growth has been an employment boon for
lawyers. These asset managers demand legal attention not only for
their splashy deals and complex transactions, but also for
compliance with the Securities and Exchange Commission requirement
that took effect in February--and was thrown into uncertainty by a
federal appellate court decision last month--mandating registration
by many hedge fund advisers.
Schulte Roth & Zabel is one of a small
group of law firms dominating the hedge fund business, and founding
partner Paul N. Roth is one of the field's most respected lawyers.
He heads the New York firm's private investment practice, with over
70 attorneys and 1,500 clients. The 67 year old has almost 40 years
of experience in private equity investments and chairs the private
investment entities subcommittee of the American Bar Association's
federal securities regulation committee.
