Recognizing a Need for Mutual Recognition

A transatlantic securities market, long the subject of academic discourse and informal dialogue between Europe and the U.S., could soon become a reality as regulators and trade groups alike continue to push the concept of cross-border cooperation.

Securities and Exchange Commission chairman Christopher Cox in early February took a step in that direction, when he and European Union internal market commissioner Charlie McCreevy discussed a "mutual recognition" framework for EU and U.S. securities markets.
